MEDIAN Research and Development Projects

Within the framework of the topic " A Quality Management System for Medical Rehabilitation of Musculoskeletal Complaints " the MEDIAN clinics responsible for the indication orthopaedics have already carried out and published two part-studies, these investigating the indications for the " Condition after Replacement of the Knee-Joint " (2002) and the " Condition after Replacement of the Hip Joint " (2003). Consistent with these investigations, Part III concentrates on the third of the major indications in the field of orthopaedic rehabilitation, namely that of back complaints. As for Parts I and II, the scientific component was undertaken by the Charité, Institute for Rehabilitation Sciences, under the direction of Prof. Dr. Werner Müller-Fahrnow.

The aim of the overall project is to evaluate the process quality and results associated with the major indications for orthopaedic rehabilitation on the basis of assessments made by the physicians and the patients.

The third part of the study began on 01.04.2004. Data acquisition in the clinics began on 15.11.2004 with a maximum period of six months. The 3-month catamnesis continued until September 2005. Parts I and II are already available in printed form. Part III has almost been completed.
